Southeast Sulawesi BKSDA Releases Buton Island Endemic Monkeys

KENDARI - Natural Resources Conservation Center or Southeast Sulawesi BKSDA (Sultra) released one endemic monkey on Macaca Ochreata Island, Brunescens.

Head of Region I BKSDA Sultra Laode Kaida said his party received one endemic monkey on Buton Island from the Baubau City Fire Department (Damkar), Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra).

"The monkey was obtained from the people of Wajo Village, Baubau City, who were then handed over to the Fire Department before finally being handed over to us," said Laode Kaida as reported by ANTARA, Friday, June 9.

Before being released into the wild, the animal was quarantined first at the Baubau KSDA Resort Office.

His party traveled 62 kilometers from Baubau City to the location of the wildlife's wild release in Buton Regency.

"Departing from Baubau City at 09.00 WITA to a location with a distance of 62 kilometers to release the animal into its natural habitat in the Lambusango Wildlife Sanctuary, Buton Regency," he explained.

It is known, Macacaochreatam is one of the endemic primates of Sulawesi, which is spread in Southeast Sulawesi.

Currently, there is still very little research on the Macacaochreata, there is only one study on the habitat and population of the Macaochreata in the Tanjung Peropa Wildlife Sanctuary (SMTP) conducted 35 years ago by Bismark so that the latest data is needed regarding the habitat and population of the Macaochreata in SMTP.
