The Lebak DPRD Supports The Bedouin Tribe Asking For Internet Signals To Be Removed In Their Region

Lebak Regency DPRD member Musa Weliansyah supports the decision of the Bedouin elder to submit a request to the government to eliminate internet signals in the Bayui Dalam area such as in Cikeusik, Cibeo, and Cikartamina.

Musa believes that the elimination of internet signals is indeed needed to preserve the customs and culture of the Bedouin.

According to him, the ease of accessing the internet network can keep young Bedouin people away from their customs and culture.

He also encouraged the government to facilitate the efforts of the Bedouin people to maintain their customs and distinctive culture.

"We ask the Ministry of Communication and Information to immediately remove the internet network in Bedouin settlements to preserve the purity of the characteristics of the Bedouin community," he said in a written statement, Friday, June 9, which was confiscated by Antara.

The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Lebak Regency, Budi Santoso, said the district government would convey the request of the Bedouin traditional elders regarding the elimination of internet signals in the Bedouin settlement area to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

"We hope that the delivery to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics will be followed up quickly," he said.

Indigenous Bedouin leaders have sent a letter to the Lebak Regent to submit a request for eliminating internet signals in their residential areas.

The letter dated June 1, 2023, was signed by a number of traditional Bedouin elders, namely Tangtu Tilu Jaro Tujuh, Deputy Jaro Tangtu, Tangkahan Jaro 12, Deputy Jaro Warega, and Jaro Pamarentah or Head of Kanekes Village.

"We hope that Bedouin settlements can be free from internet signals," said Jaro Saija, Bedouin Customary Leader and Kanekes Village Head.

He stated that in addition to bringing benefits, the ease of accessing the internet network has had a negative impact on the Bedouin community.

"We ask for the abolition of the internet signal so that the life of the Bedouin people is not influenced by negative content that is not educating, nor is it against customs," said Jaro Saija.

Santa (55), a Bedouin resident, supports the decision of the customary institution to submit a request for eliminating internet signals in the Bedouin settlement area.

He supports the decision of Badui traditional institutions because the ease of accessing the internet has made people create content that is contrary to Bedouin customs and culture.

Although it can have a negative impact, internet networks and other information technology devices have many benefits. Use in a healthy and safe manner can prevent negative impacts from the internet.

The government has campaigned for healthy and safe internet use through internet ethical learning activities in a healthy manner to prevent the adverse effects of internet use.
