TANJUNGPINANG - Riau Islands Provincial Government (Kepri Provincial Government) is still studying the central government's policy of reopening mining taps and sea sand exports.

"We first coordinate with the central government, technically what it looks like," said Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad, in Tanjungpinang, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 29.

Ansar also immediately held a meeting with related agencies within the Riau Islands Provincial Government to draw up strategic steps, following the permit for sea sand export activities in the country.

According to him, if sea sand export activities are carried out, especially in the waters of the Riau Islands Province, then these activities must certainly contribute to the local area.

"It must be arranged really, for example, what about the CSR program for fishermen. So that if it is implemented, fishermen should get greater benefits," said Ansar.

The Riau Islands Province also expects a larger portion of regional income from non-tax state revenue (PNBP) in the marine sand mining sector.

The regional income in question will also lead to an increase in the welfare of fishermen in Riau Islands Province.

"What kind of revenue sharing pattern will be discussed further," said Ansar.

Ansar said mining permits and sea sand exports were issued by the central government through the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP).

In Government Regulation (PP) Number 26 of 2023 concerning Management of Sedimentation Results in the Sea, there is one article that states that the cleaning of marine sand mining materials has economic potential, the permit process is through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) or regional governor/head.

"But, we ask the central government again so as not to violate existing regulations," said Ansar.

President Joko Widodo has allowed mining and mining business actors as well as exporting marine sand by issuing Government Regulation (PP) Number 26 of 2023 concerning Management of sedimentation Results in the Sea.
