Anticipating Identity Politics In West Java, PDIP: That's A Shared Responsibility And We Have Also Anticipated

PDI-P politician Waras Wasisto said anticipating identity politics is the common responsibility of all elements of the nation, including political elites, not to use identity politics in boosting the electability of the contestants in the 2024 election.

He said his party had carried out anticipation of identity politics in West Java Province ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"We are taking anticipatory steps to prevent identity politics from welcoming the presidential election," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

He explained that his party continues to communicate and coordinate with Islamic organizations, such as Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Persis, and tour Islamic boarding schools in West Java.

"This is a responsibility as a nation, if you want a peaceful election, there will be no SARA issue and it will not be primordial," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 27.

Waras hopes that with the remaining nine months of the 2024 General Election, the government should, including the TNI and Polri, conduct election education to the public so that they are not carried away by SARA issues.

In addition, according to Waras, the 2024 presidential election is not just a fight to win the contestation of the democratic party. However, the fight to ensure that elections, especially in West Java, take place peacefully by prioritizing the contestants' ideas, ideas and performance.

"We are well aware that we don't just want to win a fight, but we want the election to be completely peaceful. In West Java, it's no secret, the issue of SARA is the most thick," said the West Java DPRD member.

PDIP, said Waras, in addition to wanting the democratic party to be held peacefully and also trying to win presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo.

He expressed optimism that he could earn 50 percent of the votes in West Java from 36 million voters or 10-20 percent of the national voters.

According to Waras, West Java is a magnet for presidential candidates because it is the area with the most voters in Indonesia.

He was also grateful that the acceptance of the people of West Java towards Ganjar Pranowo was very high. This was proven when Ganjar received a warm welcome when he visited West Java some time ago.

Waras bahkan merasa kaget atas sambutan tersebut. "Satu hari di Bandung, hampir tidak beristirahat, acara tidak diconditionkan, acara natural saja. Misalnya, acara seni, ketemu pemerati budaya Sundanese dan lainnya," katanya.
