Indonesian Passport Detained By Company Allegedly Online Fraudster In Laos, Indonesian Embassy Monitors Police Legal Process

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) Vientiane received a complaint about the passports of Indonesian citizens being detained by the company in Bokeo, Laos.

The Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane immediately followed up on the complaint the next day by sending a request for assistance for passport collection to the Bokeo Police, Laos.

"The Bokeo Police have met with BrotherMNH and seven other Indonesian citizens to ask for their information and take their photos," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (BHI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 28.

Judha explained that the Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane received a complaint from MNH which submitted 45 Indonesian citizens, including the MNH itself, had left the company they worked for.

Judha stated that the Indonesian Embassy in Vientiane continues to monitor the progress of the investigation process and the steps to enforce the Bokeo Police law.

Until now, there are at least 29 cases of Indonesian citizens currently being handled by the local police.

"KBRI Vientiane continues to monitor and encourage local authorities to follow up on cases that befell Indonesian citizens, according to applicable procedures," said Judha.

Previously, it was reported that the Indonesian citizen's passport was detained after stopping working as an online scammer at a company called the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Laos.
