Johnny Plate Corruption Suspect, President Appoints Mahfud MD As Acting Minister Of Communication And Information

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD now has a new assignment from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Mahfud was appointed as acting (Plt) Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) after Johnny G. Plate became a suspect in alleged corruption and was detained.

"Mr. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," Jokowi told reporters in Jakarta, Friday, May 19.

Jokowi ensured that he would respect the legal process against Johnny. He emphasized that the stipulation was not a form of political intervention because law enforcement officers worked optimally.

"We respect, we must respect the existing legal process," he said.

"The Attorney General's Office must be professional and open to all related to the case," Jokowi continued.

Johnny Plate was detained by the AGO for the first 20 days. He is a suspect in alleged corruption in the construction of the 4G BTS tower and supporting infrastructure for BAKTI Kominfo.

After being named a suspect, the position of the Minister of Communication and Information will be filled with acting (Plt). This assurance was conveyed after the Secretary General of the NasDem Party was named a suspect in alleged corruption at the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

"The position of Minister will be taken over by Plt," said Special Staff of the Minister of State Secretary Faldo Maldini to reporters in a written statement, Wednesday, May 17.
