The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Ensures That The Search For 17 Indonesian Citizens From The Crew Of The Chinese Ship To Sink Continues

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) are coordinating with Australian authorities to search for Chinese crew members who sank in the Indian Ocean. 17 of them are Indonesian citizens (WNI).

"SAR operations are still being carried out to find crew members," said the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and BHI of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 17.

Based on information from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), the Chinese-flagged fishing vessel, Lu Peng Yuan Yu 028, has been found to be capsized.

The ship's discovery process used tracking of an emergency positional indicator when the AMSA team conducted a search operation around the Indian Ocean, deploying planes and ships, including asking for support from commercial vessels sailing around the location.

The ship was manned by 39 people, consisting of 17 Chinese citizens, 17 Indonesian citizens, and five Filipinos.

Responding to this incident, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing has also communicated with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The Chinese Foreign Ministry expresses concern over the disaster and will deploy two search ships and ensure the fulfillment of the rights of the crew," said Judha.
