JAKARTA - The central government will begin to repair damaged roads in Jambi Province in mid-July-August, said Indonesian President Joko Widodo when inspecting the Jalan Kota Jambi-Sungai Gelam.
"Earlier, the production road for pineapple went there, correct, damaged, we will start (improvement) later in July, August," Jokowi told the media crew on the sidelines of the review, as quoted from a video broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, May 16.
The President explained the data he had that in Jambi there were 10,000 km of district/city roads which were about 4,600 km of which were damaged.
Then for provincial roads along 1,030 km, there are 250 km of damaged roads.
Meanwhile, 130 km of the total 1,300 km of national roads are also damaged.
The President emphasized that the repair of half of the damaged provincial and district/city roads in Jambi will be handled by the central government, especially those designated as logistics roads.
"The name logistics road is very important, the name of the production road is very important, so that comes first. Moreover, severe damage must be done immediately," said Jokowi.
The President reminded that similar actions were implemented not only in Jambi, but also in other provinces in order to maintain road conditions with the allocation of production and logistics.
President Jokowi previously also reviewed the condition of damaged roads during a working visit to Lampung earlier this month. At that time, the President stated that the central government allocated a budget of Rp800 billion for road repairs in Central Lampung Regency.
