Four Hectares Of Land In Sabang City Burned

The BANDA ACEH-Fire covers an area of about four hectares in the Gampong Paya Seunara area, Sukamakmue District, Sabang City, Aceh Province, according to officials from the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA).

BPBA Chief Executive Ilyas said the land fire occurred at around 13.30 WIB and officers had been dispatched to the location to extinguish the fire.

"The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sabang City has deployed a fleet of firefighters to the scene and now the fire is still in the process of extinguishing it," said Ilyas as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 15.

"The information we received, the fire has not been extinguished," he said.

He said officers were still investigating the chronology and cause of the land fire that occurred in Gampong Paya Seunara.

Meanwhile, a forecaster at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Meteorological Station, Rizki Afriza, said that the Aceh Province was heading to the peak of the dry season, which is predicted to take place in June-August.

He appealed to residents to be aware of the possibility of forest and land fires and to avoid actions that could cause fires.

"Regions that need to be aware of the potential for forest and land fires such as Sabang, Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, North Aceh, and Aceh Jaya," said Putri.
