BKKBN: Installation Of Contraception In Smaller Men Is The Risk

YOGYAKARTA - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) of the Special Region (DI) of Yogyakarta stated that the implementation of contraception in men is less at risk than in women.

"Men's family planning is much less at risk. Like condoms, it's almost not risky, because it is rare for users who suffer from latex allergies," he said as quoted in a BKKBN press release, Sunday, May 7, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, complaints submitted by men who use condoms generally only relate to comfort and practicality. Other complaints are rarely reported.

Shodiqin explained that the contraception with the Male Operations Method (MOP) such as the vasexomi also only includes light operations with local renovations that can be completed in less than 20 minutes if there is no narrowing factor.

"In the vasectomi no organs are taken or disposed of, what is done is to cut and bind the sperm channel so that the issued manifold water no longer contains sperm," he said.

"So, because they cannot join the manifold water, then they are absorbed by the circulation of blood for the use of cells or tissues that need it," he said.

Shodiqin revealed that the percentage of men participating in the KB Program was still very low.

According to the results of the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey, only about 2.7 percent of men were participants in the KB Program, which includes 2.5 percent of condom users and 0.2 percent of users of the Vaccination type MOP method.

Data in the BKKBN Family Information System in 2022 shows that there are 2.2 percent of men using condom contraceptives and 0.25 percent of men undergoing vasectomi.

The percentage of men participating in the KB Program in 2022 was recorded at 2.48 percent, not yet up to half of the target set at 5.33 percent.

"This is due to the myth or misperception that the same vasectomi as castration, which causes loss of passion, as well as the scarcity of community figures and leaders who imitate the KB are the main causes of the low achievement of male family planning, especially the vasectomi," he said.
