The Riau Islands Police (Kepri) formed a team to investigate the source of black waste pollution or liquid B3 waste along Melayu Beach, Nongsa District, Batam City.

"The Riau Islands Police have formed a Sub-Directorate IV Tipidter Team of the Riau Islands Police Ditreskrimsus to investigate the pollution of oil waste in Melayu Beach which is suspected of being liquid B3 waste scattered along the coast," said the Director of the Water and Air Police (Dirpolairud) of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Pol. Meanwhile, Head of Sub-Directorate IV Tipidter Ditreskrimsus Riau Islands Police AKBP Yunita Stevani explained that from the results of coordination with Bakamla, the Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, and the Environmental Service, it was known that it was suspected that the black oil waste came from the MT Pablo Ship with a Chinese-Singapore Gabon-flagged destination that caught fire in Malaysian Waters three days ago on Monday, May 1.

"According to observations from the Environmental Service as a result of the Print Satellite on April 30, 2023, the estimated occurrence of contamination on the Melayu Beach line has a connection with the spill that occurred at the East OPL (Out Port Limit) with an estimated spill of 13.70 Kilometers and it is suspected that the liquid B3 waste was found in anchorage areas in the waters of Batu Ampar and Tanjung Uncang," he said.

To carry out initial countermeasures, he said, KSOP carried out temporary countermeasures using an "absorbent pad" tool to absorb oil spills and sampling by the local Environmental Service to find facts related to the origin of the waste.
