Commission V: Don't Ignore Airport Facilities Infrastructure And Treatment, Regarding Thousands Of People's Lives

JAKARTA - Commission V of the DPR is very concerned about the death of a woman in the lift at Kualanamu Airport, North Sumatra. The transportation and infrastructure affairs commission asked all airports to prioritize security aspects.

"This is a lesson for all airports in Indonesia, that security must be a priority," said Chairman of Commission V DPR RI, Lasarus, Wednesday, May 3.

"Security is a priority to ensure the comfort and trust of the public. Don't ignore the security aspect because it concerns safety issues," he added.

Asian Shinta Dewi Hasibuan was found dead rotting under the lift at Kualana Airport after being missing for three days. In the CCTV footage circulating, Asiah was seen falling when the elevator door opened before it reached the right floor. When exiting the elevator door, Asiah fell into the gap in the door to the bottom of the elevator.

Commission V of the DPR supports the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) to take firm steps against airport operators related to the death of Asiah. Moreover, Asiah was only found three days after it was reported by the victim's family.

"We also support the investigation process carried out by the Police. That there are other things that cause someone's life to die. This is a serious problem that must be accounted for," said Lasarus.

Based on the report of the North Sumatra Ombudsman, there are allegations of negligence in the maintenance of facilities and infrastructure for services at Kualanamu Airport. From the results of the inspection, the Kualana Airport elevator where Asia fell is known to often experience damage and traffic jams. In addition, there was also an error in the elevator control function.

"Don't mess with the infrastructure and maintenance of facilities at the airport. Security in the airport environment is risking the lives of thousands of people," said Lasarus.

Commission V of the DPR also said that security in the airport environment determines public comfort and trust. Therefore, Lasarus asked that if technical problems were found regarding airport services, it must be addressed as quickly as possible.

"Moreover, international airports that not only serve domestic flights, but also foreign flights. There should not be a slight negligence in causing the name of Indonesia to fall in the eyes of the world," he said.

Lasarus also asked the Ministry of Transportation to carry out strict supervision of airport operators related to the security of all facilities at the airport. Including elevators that are high traffic facilities by visitors.

"Not only at Kualanamu Airport, but all airports in Indonesia. We don't want a similar incident to happen again," said Lasarus.

The legislator from the West Kalimantan II electoral district added that airport management needs to improve aspects of safety, security, and comfort. Lasarus also asked for increased supervision of airport services.

"Evaluate to find out existing mistakes so that improvements can be made, especially at Kualana Airport because until there are victims who die. Also improve services to the community," he explained.

Aspects of service to the community are considered important in the service business such as at the airport. Commission V of the DPR highlighted complaints from the Asian family who felt that Kualanamu Airport did not provide maximum assistance when the victim was reportedly trapped in the elevator. Even the victim has only been found after three since the incident.

"In service services, cooperative attitudes must be upheld, especially since this is a safety issue. Provide the best service to the community as a service user," Lasarus appealed.

Commission V of the DPR RI also regrets that there are no officers who monitor CCTV when the incident occurs. According to Lasarus, there needs to be a massive improvement in service management at Kualanamu Airport.

"As a form of supervision, we demand improvements in service management at Kualanamu Airport," he said.

"We also want to make sure all airports in Indonesia are safe, comfortable, and do not ignore the safety elements of visitors," concluded Lasarus.
