700 DPD RI Candidates For The 2024 Election Declared Eligible: Most From West Java

JAKARTA - West Java is the province with the most candidates (Baclon) for DPD RI members, namely 55 people who have been declared to have met the results of verification of the minimum support requirements and distribution. This was conveyed by a member of the Indonesian General Election Commission, Idham Holik.

Idham explained, overall there are 700 bacalon members of the DPD RI who meet these requirements and are allowed to apply for registration in conjunction with candidates for members of the legislature of the DPR RI, Provincial DPRD, and Regency/City DPRD for the 2024 General Election which will be opened by the KPU on Monday, April 1, tomorrow.

"The highest number of candidates for DPD, namely West Java, will be 55 candidates for DPD, followed by Aceh as many as 33 candidates for DPD, Riau 29 candidates for DPD, and DKI Jakarta as 26 candidates for DPD," said Idham, quoted from Antara, Sunday, April 30.

Meanwhile, DI Yogyakarta is the province with the lowest number of candidates for DPD RI members, namely only nine people, following Central Kalimantan and North Sulawesi with 10 people each.

Idham added that the 700 prospective DPD RI candidates for the 2024 General Election were declared eligible for minimal support and distribution based on the results of administrative verification and factual verification which had started from the end of November 2022 to April 2023, before being announced through the KPU Decree on April 22.

"So the process is long, the data has been checked, the completeness is checked, verified and so on," said the Coordinator of the Technical Division for the Implementation of the Indonesian KPU Election.

Based on the composition, the 700 prospective members of the DPD RI consist of 561 men and 139 women spread across 38 provinces, including the results of the formation of a new autonomous region (DOB) in Papua, which was originally two provinces, into six provinces.

"Of the total number, 19.86 percent of prospective members of the DPD RI nationally who are verified by the KPU meet the requirements are women," he said.

Idham said that South Sumatra is the province with the highest percentage of women, namely 50 percent of prospective DPD RI members who are verified to meet the requirements, followed by Central Kalimantan and North Sulawesi as much as 40 percent.

"Meanwhile, the lowest percentage of women for prospective DPD candidates is in West Sulawesi, West Papua, and Southwest Papua, where there are no prospective women," said Idham.

On the other hand, Idham stated that the KPU is currently still carrying out the follow-up process of the decision of the Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) regarding the factual verification of candidates for DPD RI members in South Sulawesi, West Papua, and Riau.

"So that the number and percentage data can still change later," he said.

Idham reminded again that the distribution of prospective members of the DPD RI in 38 provinces, including the four new DOBs in Papua, is a mandate from the law on the formation of the issued DOB.

The four new DOBs are the provinces of Central Papua, Papua Mountains, South Papua, and Southwest Papua.

The 2024 election will select four members of the DPD RI each from each province or electoral district, and produce a total of 152 elected members or an increase of 16 compared to the 2019 election.

The 2024 election vote for candidates for members of the DPD RI, DPR RI, Provincial DPRD and Regency/City DPRD is scheduled to take place on February 14, 2024, which is held in conjunction with the voting for the 2024 presidential election.
