Deputy Secretary General Of MUI Urges Police To Immediately Summon BRIN Researcher Andi Pangerang Hasanuddin

JAKARTA - Researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Andi Pangerang Hasanuddin wrote an open letter apologizing to Muhammadiyah leaders and residents. This apology is related to his threatening comments on social media and viral online.

On the other hand, Deputy Secretary-General (Wasekjen) MUI M Azrul Tanjung encouraged the police to immediately summon BRIN researcher Andi Pangerang Hasanuddin regarding comments on the threat of murder to Muhammadiyah residents.

"Asking Andi's non-expert capacity in his field and asking the police to immediately summon and investigate the person concerned because he has made trouble and trouble," said Azrul in a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Azrul said that so far there has never been a problem with differences in the determination of the beginning of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in the country. The difference, he said, is that it is a blessing while it is still in the same faith.

According to him, the government, MUI, and various religious experts, as well as astronomy, have never questioned these differences. Even invite each other to respect differences.

"Why is this suddenly someone who doesn't have the capacity, gets hot with this difference," said the man who also serves as Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Environment Council.

He emphasized that Muhammadiyah is a large organization and is always involved in the development of civilization in Indonesia.

"Hundreds of universities, orphanages, hospitals have been established by Muhammadiyah. Even thousands of schools, mosques, and other business charities have helped educate the nation's children," he said.

However, Azrul asked Muhammadiyah residents not to get emotional and respond wisely to the case. He asked the public to hand over the case to the police.

"We leave this to the realm of law because our country is a state of law," he said.

Previously, the Central Executive (PP) of Muhammadiyah Youth officially reported researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Andi Pangerang Hasanuddin to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police, Jakarta, Tuesday, regarding alleged criminal acts of slander, defamation, and hate speech.

The police report is registered with the number LP/B/IV/2023/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri, dated April 25, 2023, with the reporter Nasrullah as the Head of the Law and Human Rights Division of Muhammadiyah Youth.
