Total Solar Eclipse Can Be Observed On Kisar Island MBD

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that a total solar eclipse could be observed on Kisar Island, Southwest Maluku Regency on April 20, 2023.

"The total solar eclipse can be observed on Kisar Island with the longest duration in Indonesia, namely 3 Hours 10 Minutes 32 Seconds," said Head of BMKG Class 1 Geophysics Station Ambon, Djati Cipto Kuncoro in Ambon, Sunday.

Quoting Antara, the duration of the peak of the eclipse on Kisar Island was one minute five seconds at 13.22.56 WIT.

Meanwhile, some areas of Maluku experienced partial solar eclipses because they were the northern and southern regions of the total solar eclipse.

The duration of the partial solar eclipse can be observed in a number of areas in Maluku, especially in Ambon for 3 hours 9 minutes 28.7 seconds, namely at 13:34:25.8 WIT.

He stated that the phenomenon of the solar eclipse on April 20, 2023 was a hybrid solar eclipse.

The eclipse of the Hybrid Sun occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are precisely fresh so that in a certain place a lunar disk event is observed from a smaller earth, than the sun disk and other specific places where the Moon disk is observed from Earth, the same as the Matahari disk.

The Hybrid Sun Eclipse is a total solar eclipse and ring event that occurs sequentially in one phenomenon, so that the hybrid sun eclipse event relatively occurs quite rare.

In addition, the observer's position affects the magnitude of the eclipse to be observed, so that observations of the two eclipses cannot be carried out simultaneously and at the same location.

As a result, when the peak of the eclipse is in a certain place, the sun will look like a ring, which is dark in the middle and bright on the edge, while in other places, the sun seems to be covered with the Moon.

Djati reminded the public not to see the eclipse process directly, because solar radiation can damage the eyes.

"Use special glasses that use filters to see the sun," he said.
