JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that extreme weather conditions have the potential to occur in a number of areas during the Eid 2023 homecoming and appealed to travelers to increase vigilance and caution. Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said that during the period 15 to 21 April 2023 heavy to very heavy rains were expected to flush parts of the Provinces of Aceh, South Sumatra, West Java, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, and Papua. Such weather conditions are also likely to occur in the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) as well as the Provinces of the Bangka Belitung Islands, East Java, East Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, and West Papua. According to BMKG estimates, during the period 22 to 28 April 2023 heavy rains still have the opportunity to occur in parts of the provinces of Aceh, West Java, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan. "Then the red region for the return flow from 29 April to 5 May is North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua," said Dwikorita, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 10. He explained that heavy rains can cause wet hydrometeorological disasters such as flash floods and landslides. "Therefore, we appeal to all travelers, transportation service providers, and transportation operators to be aware of the possibility of extreme weather during the homecoming," he said. He also said that currently the territory of Indonesia is entering a transition period from the rainy season to the dry season. During the transition from the rainy season to the dry season, he explained, weather conditions could have suddenly changed from hot to the rain or vice versa because the wind direction is very varied.

However, he continued, in general the weather in the morning is usually sunny, then cloudy during the day, and rainy in the afternoon or evening. Dwikorita said that cumulonimbus clouds usually grow in the morning before noon, shape like cauliflower, grayish color with clear edges. By late afternoon, the clouds will turn dark and then can cause rain.
