Border Residents Hand Over Illegal Firearms To RI-Malaysia Pamtas

KAPUAS HULU - Residents in the Indonesia-Malaysia border area handed over two illegal homemade firearms to the Yonarmed 19/105 Trk Bogani border security task force (Satgas Pamtas) to be handed over to the state.

"Residents are willing to hand over two illegal firearms because they are aware of the dangers of illegal possession of firearms," said Task Force Commander Pamtas Yonarmed 19/105 Trk Bogani Lt. Col. Arm Edi Yulian Budiargo, to ANTARA, in Badau Kapuas Hulu, Saturday, March 25.

Edi said that the two illegal homemade firearms were handed over by residents of the Langgau Post two villages of Sungai Antu, Puring Kencana District, Kapuas Hulu Regency and at Muakan Post, Muakan Petinggi Village, Ketungau Hulu District, Sintang Regency.

According to him, the delivery of illegal firearms is also the result of social communication or socialization by approaching the community by the soldiers of the Pamtas Yonarmed Trk Bogani Task Force.

Edi said, the patterns of approach and providing an understanding of the dangers of storing and possessing illegal firearms finally made the public aware by voluntarily handing over the weapons to the state through the Pamtas Yonarmed Trk Bogani Task Force.

"The public realizes that illegal weapons are against the law and can endanger the lives of both themselves and others if they are misused," he said.

Edi explained, the ownership of homemade firearms in border areas was generally used by people to hunt animals in the forest and used to maintain agricultural land such as fields and gardens.

He said his party would continue to provide understanding and approach to the public about the dangers of possession of illegal homemade firearms.

"Hopefully there are still people who voluntarily hand over illegal homemade firearms to the state," hoped Edi.
