Jokowi: After The Pandemic, Mass Unemployment Arose

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) acknowledged that Indonesia would be faced with a bad situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, he asked all stakeholder elements to work quickly to overcome the pandemic.

"We have to move fast, because we still have a lot of homework to do. We will be faced with the large number of unemployed people due to layoffs (layoffs) during the pandemic," he said, at the 2020 Bank Indonesia Annual Meeting, Thursday, December 3.

Not only unemployment due to layoffs, said Jokowi, Indonesia is also faced with the huge need for new jobs. This is in line with the large number of new workforce.

"We (also) face a large workforce that requires jobs. Therefore the government is determined to carry out structural reforms, fixing the complex bureaucracy and the complicated bureaucracy," he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi explained that this condition underlies the creation of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation. The purpose of this law is to create a more conducive business climate for competitiveness.

"In order for MSMEs to be more developed and labor-intensive industries to grow rapidly," he explained.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta hopes that Bank Indonesia can contribute more to stimulate the real sector, encourage the creation of new jobs, and help the business sector, especially MSMEs, to return to productivity.

"We must share the burden, share responsibility for the affairs of this nation and state so that our country is able to transform into a new economic power at the regional and global levels," he said.
