Novel Baswedan Wants To Resign As A KPK Investigator, Just Waiting Time

JAKARTA - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan spoke up about his future at the anti-graft commission. Novel admits that resigning as a KPK investigator has actually crossed over since some time ago.

Moreover, he felt that the KPK's condition was no longer ideal for eradicating corruption after the enactment of Law Number 19 of 2019 or the revision of the KPK Law.

"We who are in the KPK want to eradicate corruption. When the situation is not ideal to eradicate corruption properly, it becomes our own concern," Novel said in an interview especially on YouTube Karni Ilyas Club quoted Monday, November 30.

One of the things that is worrying, said Novel, is about the independence of employees in the institution which is under threat due to the transfer of employment status to the state civil apparatus (ASN).

Not only that, he thinks that employee recruitment by external parties has the potential to erode the independence of the institution. In fact, as an institution that eradicates rasuah cases, independence is a necessity so that it is far from intervention by other parties.

This condition made KPK employees who were serious about carrying out their duties later resigned. In fact, he did not deny that this condition also made him want to leave the KPK.

Moreover, recently, the KPK has been left behind by dozens of employees who also feel the same unrest.

"Actually, since some time ago I wanted to resign," he said.

However, lately he still chose to stay. Novel said that he would only resign from his job as an investigator after he could no longer do anything at the KPK to eradicate corruption.

"I will wait until when I can't do anything, I can't do something serious, I will resign," he concluded.
