JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service, Andono Warih, said that his party had collected more than 22 thousand kilograms of electronic waste (e-waste) for ten months, from January to October 2020.

Electronic waste is electronic goods or equipment that are obsolete and no longer provide value or benefit to their owners. Electronic waste contains hazardous and toxic materials (B3).

"We have transported more than 22,000 kilograms of electronic waste from January to October. We are working with a third party that has a permit from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for further management," Andono said in his statement, Thursday, November 19.

Andono said the electronic waste was collected from dozens of dumpsites that had previously been prepared by the DKI LH Department. These shelters are in the form of drop boxes scattered in a number of places in Jakarta.

"Dozens of drop box points have been scattered in buildings and offices of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, private companies, schools, Transjakarta bus stops, train stations, MRT stations and other public spaces," said Andono.

Andono said that Jakarta residents can also hand over or request to pick up electronic waste weighing at least five kilograms to the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency on Jalan Mandala V, Cililitan, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta.

He continued, residents of Jakarta can also apply for disposal of electronic waste on services online by visiting the website Lingkunganhidup.jakarta.go.id or via Facebook with the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency account.

"The collection of waste or electronic waste covers five administrative city areas. Must be residents of DKI Jakarta and individuals. Then, the weight of electronic waste should be at least five kilograms," said Andono.

"Electronic waste can be sourced both from households and also from activities such as from offices, schools, hotels, apartments and others," he concluded.
