Principal Of SMAN 6 Depok Schools Denies Discrimination On Student Council Candidates: There Are Technical Errors

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has clarified to the principal of SMA Negeri 6 Depok regarding the alleged discrimination against the candidate for the Student Council Chair with the initials EC who is a non-Muslim.

Based on the results of his supervision, KPAI Commissioner for Education, Retno Listyarti said that the head of SMAN 6, Abdul Fatah, denied that there was an issue of SARA which resulted in a re-election of the candidacy for the Student Council Chair in his school.

Retno said, Fatah admitted that there were technical problems related to the online system used in the election for the Student Council Chairperson because the system was new and had never been tested before.

"The online system program used is the work of students who are members of Information Technology extracurricular activities. The principal emphasized that the re-election of the Student Council was due to an error system problem, not because of the issue of SARA," said Retno to reporters, Sunday, November 15.

Fatah said, when the system was still not technically ready, it turned out that the teachers distributed usernames and passwords to the students regarding the OSIS election.

Supposedly, Fatah said, the username and password should only be seen by the registered owner in the election. With the condition of the election data being invalid, finally the school held a discussion with 9 candidates for the Student Council Chairperson.

"At that time, ananda E (candidate for student council chairman) expressed his objection if the student council election should be repeated, and declared that he would resign if it was repeated because he had received the most votes," said Retno.

Therefore, Retno urged the school to reflect so that this incident would not be repeated in the future. This is because the election is repeated on the grounds that an error system clearly triggers the uncertainty of the election results.

"Naturally, if ananda E refuses re-election because he is already in a position to get the most votes compared to other candidates, it means that he is a party that has the potential to be disadvantaged if the election is repeated," he said.
