At the National Museum of Indonesia, Jakarta, the list of nominees for the 2023 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) was officially announced by the 2023 Indonesian Film Festival Committee (FFI) today. The reading of the nominations for 22 categories of FFI Citra Cup awards and Film Critics was carried out alternately by the 2023 FFI Ambassador, namely Christine Hakim, Lukman Sardi, Laura Basuki, Putri Marino, and Chicco Kurniawan, Chair of the 2021-2023 FFI Committee Reza Rahadian, as well as a special appearance from Teza Sumendra.

Nadiem Anwar Makarim, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, in his speech said, The announcement of the 2023 FFI nomination this time feels very special for me. Because apart from the increasing number of films made by Indonesian filmmakers who made proud achievements on the international stage, the use of the Indonesian National Museum to read out the candidates for FFI award winners this year is an important step to support the transformation of Indonesian museums and cultural heritage," said Nadiem Makarim in a media statement received by VOI, Monday, October 16.

The list of nominations for the Long Story Film category is the result of selection and judging conducted by the FFI 2023 Citra Academy. A total of 69 members of the Citra Academy from various film professions have worked from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The Citra Academy is film people who have received the Citra Cup award in the previous FFI. The selection and judging process is carried out online through the FFI View Space page which can be accessed from websites and applications, in collaboration with Online Cinemas.

The judging process went well and smoothly. Association participation and the Citra Academy also made this process open and democratic. The results of the judging to this stage are the results of the basic stage of the competition whose quality will be tested by the final jury. In addition, the categories of Audience Choices are spaces for community participation, especially film lovers, so they must be effective and managed in a wide space of people," said Garin Nugroho, Chair of the FFI 2023 Judging Committee, related to the FFI 2023 judging process.

Furthermore, Garin Nugroho said, A judging system is not just a win and a loss. This three-year judging system represents and encourages the participation of components for the development of the film ecosystem, namely associations, film people, industry, and society. Therefore, existing systems need to be maintained and strengthened in the future.

The nomination stages for the Non-State Story Film category (Short Story Film, Long Documentary Film, Short Documentary Film, and Short Animated Film) and the category of Film Criticism are still managed by related professional associations, namely COFFIE (Coordination for Film Festival in Indonesia), ADN (Indonesian Documentary Association), AINAKI (Indonesian Animation Industry Association), and KAFEIN (Indonesian Film Review Association). The entire judging process is carried out by selected judges and facilitated and supervised by the Indonesian Judging and Accounting Committee.
