Inaugurating 21 Green Hydrogen Plant Units, Becomes The Most In Southeast Asia
PT PLN (Persero) inaugurated 21 units of Green Hydrogen Plant (GHP) spread throughout Indonesia, Monday, November 20 at the Tanjung Priok steam gas power plant (PLTGU), Jakarta.
This inauguration made PLN the company that has the most GHP in Southeast Asia. Previously in October, PLN had also inaugurated the first GHP in Indonesia, which is located at the Muara Karang PLTGU, Jakarta.
Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi explained that hydrogen is a future fuel that is being widely developed in the global arena. Indonesia, has great hydrogen potential, it can even supply green hydrogen needs in the world.
"Indonesia has great green hydrogen development potential. We can even use it ourselves," said Yudo in his remarks, Monday, November 20.
Yudo also appreciated PLN's quick steps in developing green hydrogen in Indonesia. Within one month, PLN succeeded in adding 20 GHP units spread throughout Indonesia.
"After last meeting last month at PLTU Muara Karang, PLN promised to increase this hydrogen plant. PLN has accelerated this step," said Yudo.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said GHP is PLN's strategic step to build the first green hydrogen supply chain in Indonesia. This HGP is capable of producing 199 tons per year
For information, the GHP made by PLN is produced using a source from the solar power plant (PLTS) in the generating area.
In addition to being produced from PLTS installed, this green hydrogen also uses Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) from several EBT plants in Indonesia.
With 21 units of GHP, it is capable of producing almost 200 tons per year, from previously only 51 tons of hydrogen per year. The results of this green hydrogen production, as much as 75 tons per year are used for the operational needs of the generator (cooling generator), while the other 124 tons can be used for various needs, one of which is for vehicles.

With an average hydrogen consumption of 0.8 kg vehicles per 100 kilometers, 124 tons of green hydrogen produced can be used for 424 cars per year which move 100 kilometers a day.
This figure can reduce carbon emissions to 3.72 million kg of CO2 and reduce fuel imports by 1.55 million liters per year, converting import energy into domestic energy.
The 21 GHPs belonging to PLN are located at PLTU Pangkalan Susu, PLTGU Muara Karang, PLTU Suralaya 1-7, PLTU Suralaya 8, PLTGU Cilegon, PLTU Labuhan, PLTU Lontar, PLTGU Tanjung Priok, PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu, PLTGU Muara Tawar, PLTU Indramayu, PLTGU Tambak Lorok, PLTU Tanjung Jati B, PLTU Rembang, PLTU Tanjung Awar-awar, PLTG Gresik, PLTG Pemaron, PLTU Paiton, PLTU Grati, PLTU Pacitan, and PLTU Adipala.
