Kemendikbudristek Supports Sustainable Education Achievements

JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO (KNIU) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) supports initiatives for educational achievement, environmental awareness and sustainable development.

"This effort reflects Indonesia's strong commitment to global progress and its determination to encourage positive change," said KNIU Daily Chair Itje Chodidjah in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Sunday 13 November.

She emphasized at the 10th Interregional National Commissions for UNESCO meeting that her party continues to encourage the spirit of collaboration with various parties, especially with the UNESCO Jakarta Office.

This collaboration is carried out in order to advance Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) as a commitment to a sustainable future.

In close collaboration with the UNESCO Jakarta Office, she said KNIU is leading the development of a major project with a main focus on ESD which aims to increase awareness of sustainable practices and emphasize the importance of environmental, social and economic understanding.

Itje added that KNIU also collaborates with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) in several joint projects that focus on UNESCO programs, ESD and future priorities.

During regional consultations with UNESCO, KNIU also conveyed Indonesia's commitment to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage and artistic expression.

"The Indonesian government is proud to host regional consultations on arts and culture education, as a form of preserving Indonesia's cultural heritage," said Itje.

Itje explained that Indonesia had the honor of leading Asia-Pacific consultations in preparation for Mondiacult, the World Conference on Culture in 2022 in Mexico.

Indonesia's role as chair of the Asia-Pacific regional consultation for Mondiacult 2022 shows the Indonesian government's dedication to cultural exchange and global cooperation which emphasizes that Indonesia has a big role in the field of culture.

As the host of the regional meeting on ESD with UNESCO Jakarta, UNESCO Bangkok, the Indonesian government, the Indonesian government is also working to increase awareness and understanding of the principles of sustainable development.

KNIU has successfully organized regional meetings on ESD in the Asia-Pacific, collaborating with partners such as UNESCO.

She said KNIU is also collaborating with Arigatou International to train ethics education mentors who are currently spread across five provinces in Indonesia.

"This collaboration aims to provide training for educators in the field of ethics and character education which is currently increasingly developing in Indonesia," she said.
