PGN Encourages The Utilization Of Clean Energy In Realizing Smart City

JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk as Pertamina Gas Subholding plays an active role in encouraging the development of sustainable Smart City based on clean energy.

Arief Setiawan Handoko as the President Director of PGN said that PGN will continue to encourage the use of clean energy by the community by providing natural gas, where natural gas is one of the energies with low carbon emissions.

"Through the use of clean energy, we can maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of Smart City by reducing costs and energy use. In addition, environmental sustainability can be maintained, and the quality of life of the community will increase", said Arief in a public discussion forum in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 8.

PGN Group seeks integrated solutions in providing services from upstream to downstream through quality energy. Natural gas distribution is also carried out through pipeline and non-pipeline infrastructure (beyond pipeline). This is in accordance with PGN's pillars in supporting Smart City development, namely providing Smart Energy, Smart Solution, and Smart Infrastructure.

Natural gas has been used as vehicle fuel which is considered cleaner. The use of gas fuel (BBG) in transportation modes is recorded to provide cost savings of up to 33 percent.

Utilization of natural gas through a pipeline gas network can generate cost savings of up to 27-28 percent for household, commercial, and industrial customers. Furthermore, the utilization of natural gas beyond pipeline is also recorded to provide cost savings of up to 18 percent.

Arief said that PGN is also trying to circumvent gas networks in Smart City, such as the Nusantara State Capital (IKN) project. Monitoring of gas networks throughout Indonesia is also carried out in real time as a form of PGN in prioritizing safety aspects.

"Until now, we also have approximately 7,000 km of gas pipelines distributed in Indonesia, as well as 2 Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRU) in Lampung and Jakarta, which we will continue to develop to create sustainable growth," added Arief.

Through support for Smart City development, PGN hopes that Smart City will not only be about technology and networks, but also optimize the use of clean energy.

"PGN is ready to help answer urban problems and create sustainable Smart City through Smart Energy, Smart Solution, and Smart Infrastructure throughout Indonesia," concluded Arief.
