DPR Encourages Government To Schedule Diplomacy To Discuss Israel's Aggression To Palestine
JAKARTA - House Speaker Puan Maharani said parliament continues to encourage the government to take diplomatic steps to support the resolution of the Israeli and Palestinian conflicts.
"Responding to the armed conflict that occurred between Israel and the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, which has killed thousands of people, the Indonesian House of Representatives continues to encourage the government to take diplomatic steps in supporting a fair settlement for Palestine," said Puan while reading a speech at the 8th DPR RI Plenary Meeting. He said parliament also continued to voice international recognition of the sovereignty and independence of the Palestinian people.
Puan then explained a series of parliamentary diplomatic activities that will be carried out during the Second Session of the 2023-2024 Session Year.
Among other things, the DPR will host the 9th Mikta Speakers Consultation (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia) activities in Jakarta on November 20, 2023.
"The Indonesian House of Representatives will also hold bilateral meetings with various countries, namely South Korea, South Africa, Poland, and the European Union. The Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to strive to be able to carry out diplomatic tasks between parliaments so that Indonesia has a stronger foreign political position," he said.
Apart from Puan, it was also seen that the Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives, Rachmat Gobel, Lodewijk F. Paulus, and Sufmi Dasco Ahmad were also present.

Based on a report from the Secretariat General of the DPR, the plenary meeting was attended by 154 council members physically and 140 other council members declared permission.
Previously, the Bilateral Cooperation Group of the House of Representatives Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency RI-Parlemen Palestine together with the Friendship Foundation and Civilization Studies distributed Palestinian scarfs to members of the House of Representatives who wanted to attend the 8th Plenary Meeting of Session II Session Year 2023-2024 in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Chairman of the Bilateral Cooperation Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (GKSB BKSAP) of the DPR RI-Parclemen Palestine Syahrul Aidi Maazat said the distribution of the Palestinian scarf was an initiative movement initiated by his institution in order to provide support to Palestine.
"Of course we also provide that support, our friends at GKSB in yesterday's hearings also gave a resolution for the handling of the Israeli Palestinian case," said Syahrul at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.
