Hail In Sragen Damaged Residents' Houses

JAKARTA - Hail flushed a number of sub-districts in Sragen Regency, Central Java on Sunday (22/10) afternoon, causing 137 houses to be lightly to heavily damaged.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sragen Regency, Raden Triono Putra, said several locations that were showered by hail included Sumberlawang District and Mondokan District.

"That's right, heavy rain and heavy rain accompanied by strong winds occurred in Kacangan Village in Sumberlawang District, and Gemantar Village and Sumberejo Village in Mondokan District," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 23.

In accordance with the incoming reports, he said, hail occurred at 17.00 WIB.

As a result of the incident, a number of residents' houses suffered minor to severe damage.

BPBD noted that as many as 137 houses suffered minor damage and two houses were severely damaged. However, he said, there were no fatalities as a result of the incident.

"The loss is estimated at Rp. 137.5 million. If the house is heavily damaged, one of the owners has been injured, but has now been referred to Assalam Gemolong Hospital," he said.

Regarding the initial handling carried out, he said, one of them was cleaning the collapsed house involving volunteers.

Meanwhile, this condition also hampered residents' activities and road access was hampered.

"Several trees hit the house, many tiles were damaged. We appeal to related agencies to convey to the public to cut tree branches that have the potential to break and can endanger road users," he said.
