Using Analytics Data To Improve Operational Advantages, SIG Utilizes Cloud Amazon Web Services

The availability of reliable information and communication technology systems is a must for PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), to support business processes in the wide operational area of the Company covering all regions of Indonesia and Vietnam. One of the initiatives carried out by SIG is to accelerate transformation using cloud computing or cloud computing by partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

As the leader of the national cement industry, currently SIG controls more than 50 percent of the market share. In running its business, GIS is supported by an integrated cement factory in 9 locations, a packaging plant in 26 locations, 8 cement milling factories, 7 ports, 385 distributors and more than 70,000 retail stores. With such a large operation, it is necessary to have strong and flexible technology reliability.

Senior Vice President of Group Head Information & Communication Technology at GIS, Anindio Daneswara said, a number of challenges still facing the cement industry today, prompting GIS to take advantage of cloud technology to increase operational excellence and create opportunities that contribute to the Company's efficiency and financial performance.

"SIG has a very broad operational spectrum supported by hundreds of systems and applications, including ERP (Enterprice Resource Planning) and critical special applications, thus requiring adequate technology infrastructure support. The use of cloud technology is expected to increase the reliability and flexibility of the information and communication technology system SIG to handle the complexity and operational scale of the Company," said Anindio Danaswara at the AWS Cloud Day Indonesia activity which took place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel Pacific Place Grand Ballroom, Jakarta, Tuesday 26 September.

According to Anindio Daneswara, cloud technology supports the availability of data and analytics that assists SIG management in decision making across Company operational activities. This is because cloud technology has an advantage in processing and storing data, as well as a basic foundation so that the use of data analytics and AI (artificial intelligence) can be used in the Company.

The majority of critical application systems in GIS are already operating using cloud technology in early 2022. In the same year, GIS managed to go live with the big data initiative of platform analytics which is a credible source of single information to assist management in decision making. This crossover from on-premise to cloud is estimated to increase the speed of the computational process by 1.6 times and contributes to an increase in efficiency in the use of computing resources by 20 percent. In general, with cost leadership from the use of cloud technology, we have the potential to decrease operating costs by around 30-40 percent, "said Anindio Danaswara.
