Westfalia Returns To North America With Van Ram ProMaster
JAKARTA - After a 20-year absence from the North American market, Westfalia is set to return with its newest van Ram ProMaster-based model to launch in 2024.
Westfalia, formerly known for its van VW conversion, has created a van life movement subculture with the iconic van canver. However, since Daimler acquired the Westfalia-Werke camper conversion company, Westfalia's pop-up van VW disappeared from the American market.
Now, the current owner, Groupe Rapido of France, has decided to revive this iconic legacy by establishing Westfalia-Americas. They plan to return to the American market in 2024.
Although Westfalia is still offering a camper version of van VW in Europe, certification processes for US regulation will be expensive. Instead, Westfalia will use van Ram ProMaster as the main candidate to bring the van camper back to North America.
Reporting from Caranddriver, September 27, Westfalia has four versions of their Columbus model in Europe, all built on the Fiat platform similar to Ram ProMaster. This Westfalia class B van model can accommodate up to six people with three folding beds including sleeping at the top with liftable roofs. Although not as big as other RVs, this van offers considerable flexibility and storage space.

The conversion process will be carried out by Roadtrek in Ontario, Canada, which is already experienced in camper conversions in the ProMaster 3500 series. Currently, the dealer network is still in the early planning stage.
With the return of the liftable roof that is its trademark, Westfalia is ready to reclaim the hearts of van campers in North America.
