17 Pekanbaru Tenayan Raya Police Detainees Escape, 10 People Are Still At Large

The police managed to arrest seven of the 17 detainees of the Tenayan Raya Police, Pekanbaru City, Riau, hours after they fled on Thursday morning.

Kapolda Inspector General Mochammad Iqbal confirmed the incident of the escape of the dozens of detainees and has ordered his staff to pursue the escaped prisoners.

"Currently, seven people have been arrested and the search is still being carried out in the field. I ask all ranks to work optimally and quickly," said Iqbal, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, September 21.

The Regional Police Chief said a special team from elements of the Tenayan Raya Police, Pekanbaru Resort Police and Riau Police had been formed to pursue the detainees.

In addition, Iqbal also appealed to the public not to worry about the escape of the detainees.

"I make sure the detainees will be arrested in a short time," he said.

The prisoners managed to escape after breaking into the cell walls of the Tenayan Raya Police Headquarters on Thursday morning. A few hours later, seven prisoners were arrested at different locations in Pekanbaru, while 10 others were still being chased.

Until now, the Riau Regional Police Provos conducted an internal examination of a number of personnel on duty at the Tenayan Raya Police Headquarters.

The case of escaped prisoners occurred in early August 2023 at the Rumbai Police which was carried out by 10 prisoners. The detainees were caught in various cases, namely theft, abuse of minors, embezzlement, and drug abuse.

10 days after escaping, the detainees with the initials RR, RNY, RF, MA, HI, SC, DS, NW, A, and DP were again arrested in various locations. Four of them had to be paralyzed by hot lead because they fought the officers when they were about to be arrested.
