The Jatibarang Semarang TPA Fire Allegedly Due To The Burning Illang

Semarang - Mayor of Semarang Hevearita G. Rahayu said the Jatibarang TPA fire, Semarang City, Central Java, was allegedly triggered by the burning of weeds around the landfill that was no longer operating.

"There was a dry bush and then the location was locked, no one was guarding it," said the mayor when checking the Jatibarang TPA fire, reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 19.

According to Ita, Zone 1 is the first area to catch fire.

The fire that hit Zone 1, he said, had begun to be controlled and was in the cooling process.

"The first zone has been cooled because there may still be a small fire," he added.

The strong gusts of wind, he continued, caused the fire to spread into the zone which is a former fertilizer factory.

Ita said that apart from fire engines belonging to the Semarang City Government, fire fighting was also assisted by vehicles belonging to the Semarang Kendal Regency Government.

In addition, he said, tank cars belonging to PDAM, the Environment Service, the Public Works Service, and other agencies were also deployed to help with water supply.

"This tank truck assistance is so that fire engines do not need to get out to find water supply," he said.

Previously, a fire hit the Jatibarang TPA area, Semarang City, on Monday afternoon.

The fire first appeared in the former TPA at the top which spread to the bottom.

The trigger for the fire in the TPA that has been closed is not yet known.

Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly into the area in the garbage pile area.
