The 1975 Holds The World's First 'Carbon Elimination' Concert
JAKARTA - The 1975 will hold the world's first carbon removal' concert in The O2 in London.
Concert organizers confirmed earlier this week that they will host the world's first "carbon removal" arena concert in early 2024, and the 1975 concert will be the first show to be held in a new format.
In a series of pilot events starting next February, organizers will use various methods to extract carbon produced by the event physically and remove it from the atmosphere.
Using this data, the cost of removing carbon related to these events can be included in existing business models.
If successful, this pilot event will help pave the way for new models of practice for venues, promoters, and tours around the world, as well as help encourage reducing carbon emissions in the entertainment industry directly in the future.
"We are very proud to host the world's first carbon removal event here in The O2," said Sam Booth, Director of Sustainability at AEG Europe.
The current perfect large-scale carbon-free events do not exist, but although the industry continues to innovate and make improvements to reduce emissions to the lowest possible levels, carbon removal will remain an important part of this puzzle.

Mark Stevenson, Co-Founder and Chief Impact Officer at CUR8 agree, adding: "The great thing about this show is that we can show that now we can multiply the cost of removing the remaining CO2 into existing business models, in such a way that fans will not see any differences in the performance experience."
This is a win-win solution for artists and their fans who care about the climate crisis.
The 1975 show featured in a new environmentally friendly design trial will be part of the 2024 Still At Their Very Best tour in the UK and Europe which was announced recently.
