Through Pertamina, the Republic of Indonesia Strengthens Energy Cooperation with Tanzania
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said he wanted to increase the value of investment in Tanzania in the energy sector through SOE Pertamina.
He conveyed this while delivering a press statement with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu in Dar Es Salaam, Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
"Indonesia wants to increase investment in Tanzania, including in managing the Mnazi Bay Gas Block by Indonesian BUMNs and processing natural gas into chemicals and fertilizers," said the President, Wednesday, August 23.
Jokowi considers that investment in this field is very strategic and can strengthen cooperation between developing countries.
"Investment cooperation in this field is very strategic and will strengthen cooperation between developing countries," he said.
Previously, in the presence of President Joko Widodo and President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati and Managing Director of TPDC Mussa Makame signed a memorandum of understanding with a state-owned company from Tanzania, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Company (TPDC).

The MOU marked the start of Pertamina's cooperation in Tanzania to increase exploration for hydrocarbons and the entire crude oil value chain. The two companies will also examine the potential for cooperation in the oil and gas sector in Tanzania, including oil and gas exploration and production and piping.
"Strategic cooperation in the energy sector between TPDC and Pertamina is a milestone to improve relations between Tanzania and Indonesia, considering that TPDC and Pertamina are state-owned enterprises which are wholly owned by each government," explained Nicke.
Nicke explained, Through the MoU between TPDC and Pertamina, the two BUMNs agreed to cooperate in the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors, including downstream investment opportunities in CNG stations and Mini LNG supplies. In addition, capacity building for TPDC employees is also to receive training or education in Indonesia.
