Potential 2.5 Meter Waves In Southeast Sulawesi Waters, BMKG Reminds Ship Speed Limits
SULTRA - Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) waters have the potential to experience a moderate wave of 1.25-2.5 meters over the next week starting from August 21.
The Class of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Southeast Sulawesi, Rizka Erwin Lestari, said the forecast was based on the wind pattern, which is generally from East-South at a speed of 2-25 knots.
"The highest wind speed was observed in the East Banda Sea, Southeast Sulawesi, Baubau Waters, and Wakatobi Waters," he said in a written statement, Tuesday, August 22, which was confiscated by Antara.
Rizka explained that moderate waves from 1.25-2.5 meters are likely to occur in the waters of the southern part of the Banggai Islands, the waters of Teluk Tolo, Menuai Kendari, Baubau, the northern waters of Wakatobi, and the East Banda Sea of Southeast Sulawesi.

Rizka also appealed to the public and sea transportation users to pay attention to the risks to shipping safety. He asked sea transportation users to observe speed based on the type of ship used.
"Please pay attention to the high risk to shipping safety, for fishing boats with wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave heights above 1.25 meters, barges with wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave heights above 1.5 meters, ferries with wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave heights above 2.5 meters, and large ships such as cargo ships/ship cruises of wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave heights above 4.0 m," said Rizka.
