Making Indonesia Independent Of The Economy, Downstreaming Of The Nickel Industry In The Style Of Jokowi Is Fully Supported By Ganjar
JAKARTA - The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, expressed his support for efforts to downstream the industry that was intensified by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to him, this step will make Indonesia an independent country in the economic sector.
This statement was made by Ganjar after attending the Inauguration of the Management of the National Board of Entrepreneurs Association of Indonesia (Apindo) for the period 2023-2028 at Kempinski Grand Ballroom, Central Jakarta, on Monday 31 July. President Joko Widodo was also present at the event.
"That, you know, there are examples, let's do it. And we will become an independent nation in the economic field," said Ganjar in a written statement on Tuesday, August 1.
President Jokowi on the occasion also explained that the export value of nickel products from downstream has reached US$ 33.81 billion or around Rp. 504.2 trillion in 2022. This figure shows an increase of 745 percent from the export value in 2017.
According to a report from the United States Geological Survey Agency (USGS), Indonesia is the largest nickel producer in the world in 2022.
World nickel production is estimated to reach 3.3 million metric tons by 2022, an increase of 20.88 percent from the previous year which reached 2.73 million metric tons.

Indonesia has managed to record its achievements as the number one nickel producer in the world with a total production of 1.6 million metric tons or contributing 48.48 percent of total global nickel production over the past year.
Not only that, Indonesia is also listed as the owner of the largest nickel reserves in the world in 2022 with a total of 21 million metric tons, accounting for about 21 percent of the total global nickel reserves.
President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia has a great opportunity from the projected investment value in Indonesia's downstream roadmap which reaches US$ 545.3 billion or around Rp. 8,128 trillion. Ganjar is optimistic that Indonesia can become a sovereign country in the economic sector.
"So we can downstream a lot and starting from nickel we can have a fairly high added value," concluded Ganjar with high confidence in the efforts to downstream the industry that was intensified by the government.
