122 People Become Victims Of The Cambodian Network TIP, The Economy Is Destroyed By The COVID-19 Pandemic
JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya said 122 people had become victims of the suspects in the Cambodian network of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO). The majority of them work as laborers to security.
"For the time being, the victims we have detected are 122 people. And I am sure there are more," said Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Hengki Haryadi to reporters, Thursday, July 20.
They were desperate to undergo the kidney transplantation because they were tempted by the promised money. This is because their economy was destroyed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"As a big victim, this is economically motivated as a result of the pandemic, most of them have lost their jobs and so on," he said.
The victims related to the TIP case of kidney sales have various professions, one of which has a master's degree from a well-known university.
"Then the victim's profession is traders, private teachers, and even this prospective donor has a master's degree from a well-known university, because there is no work from the impact of the pandemic. Then also workers, security, and so on," he said.
"So the bigger motive is the economy and this vulnerable position is used by this syndicate or network," continued Hengki.
Meanwhile, this syndicate seeks victims in various ways, one of which promises money to potential victims. The nominal reaches hundreds of millions.
"Promising Rp135 million for each donor when they finish carrying out the kidney transplant in Cambodia there. So after the transplant, a few days later it was immediately transferred to a personal account," said Hengki.
