Tourists Survived After The Ship Was Hit By High Waves In Labuan Bajo Waters
ENDE - The Joint Search and Rescue Team evacuated domestic tourists who were victims of a sinking lifeboat belonging to the tourist ship KM Kaia which sank due to high waves and strong winds in the waters of Mauawang Island, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.
"The victim was in a diving boat but the boat sank due to strong winds and high waves," said Maumere Basarnas Head Supriyanto Ridwan as SAR Mission Coordinator from Maumere, Sikka Regency, quoted by ANTARA Tuesday, July 18.
The West Manggarai SAR Post has received information on the accident of a lifeboat boarded by a domestic tourist named Alex Susanto Salim (43), Monday night.
The victim was about to do diving around Mauwang Island at 17.00 WITA but strong winds and high waves sank the lifeboat.
When the Joint SAR Team arrived at the scene, the victim was assisted by the ship's crew using the Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) method.
The Joint SAR Team also continued to perform CPR, then evacuated the victims to the Syahbandar Labuan Bajo harbor at 19.00 WITA.
The victim was taken to Siloam Labuan Bajo Hospital and the doctor stated that the victim had died.
"From the statement of the doctor, the victim could no longer be helped or died," said Supriyanto Ridwan.
Head of the Labuan Bajo Komodo Meteorological Station, Sti Nenotek said that there was the potential for strong winds with speeds reaching 50 km per hour in Labuan Bajo yesterday.
