PBB Asks KPU-Bawaslu To Discuss Proposal To Postpone The 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) Afriansyah Noor asked the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) to sit down together to complete the proposal to postpone the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada.

"I think that the election organizers and regional elections (are) the KPU. Of course, it can be evaluated together. If you really want to postpone it, you can prepare a mechanism for postponement. This is a legal stipulation," said Afriansyahusai attending the 2023 Hoegeng Awards Awards Peak Night in South Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 14.

According to Afriansyah, the KPU as the election organizer can conduct an evaluation with Bawaslu. If there is a possibility that the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada will be postponed, then the postponement mechanism can be prepared.

In addition, according to him, the only one month interval between the determination and schedule of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada is very tight. Therefore, he said, it was possible that the Bawaslu proposal regarding the postponement of the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada could be realized.

"They think that with the time of readiness of the KPU, how? This must be studied properly," he added.

However, Afriansyah continued to submit the decision to postpone the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada to the KPU and Bawasluguna to get a good decision.

"In principle, we from the Crescent Star Party handed everything over to the KPU and Bawaslu to sit together for the better," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja said the proposal regarding the option to postpone the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections was a discussion carried out in a closed meeting forum.

"For this matter, it was discussed behind closed doors, so I could not comment because it should be a closed meeting," Bagja told reporters after attending the launch of the "Learning Fajar Attack" Campaign at the KPK building, Jakarta, Friday, July 14.

He emphasized that this was limited to a dismissal, so it was not a conclusion from the Coordination Meeting forum of Ministries and State Institutions held by the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) with the theme "Potential and Situation of Mutakhir Election Insecurity and National Strategy" in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/7).

Bagja explained that he would not bring the proposal to be discussed with Commission II of the DPR.

This is because the determination of the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada is not the authority of the Bawaslu as the organizer of the election, but the authority of the Government and the DPR RI.

Deputy IV of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Juri Ardiantoro emphasized that the Government will continue to hold Simultaneous Regional Head Elections on November 27, 2024.

"The government remains in accordance with the legal scenario that the regional elections will be held in November 2024," said the jury, who is also a former member of the Indonesian KPU.
