Dozens Of Cows In Sukabumi Infected With FMD And LSD

SUKABUMI - The results of animal health checks on dozens of stalls selling sacrificial animals in Sukabumi City, West Java, Sukabumi City Agriculture and Fisheries Food Security Service (DKP3) found dozens of cows infected with mouth and nail disease (PMK) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).

"The wages of the cows were infected with PMK and four people were infected with LSD. This discovery was after we conducted a health check on 66 stalls selling sacrificial animals," said Sukabumi City DKP3 Head Adrian Hariadi as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 19.

According to Adrian, dozens of cows infected with the disease were found in the stall selling sacrificial animals in the Nyomplong Village area, Warudoyong District. The cow, which is indicated to have been exposed to PMK and LSD, has been isolated or quarantined and given treatment.

With these findings, his party increased supervision, let alone approaching the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1444 H, the sale of sacrificial animals, usually mushrooming in various areas in Sukabumi City due to increasing demand.

It is suspected that dozens of cows contracted FMD and LSD while traveling from outside the area to Sukabumi City, where during the process of shipping breeding animals will be easily exposed to disease because their health conditions have decreased.

Therefore, in anticipation of the spread of LSD and PMK in the Sukabumi City area, his party also appealed to traders of sacrificial animals to ensure the health condition of their animals and cages.

If it is suspected that a sacrificial animal is infected with a disease, either to be immediately kept away or quarantined from other livestock. And if you need treatment or a health check, you can contact the Sukabumi City DKP3 officer or consult a veterinarian.

"The handling of PMK and LSD must be fast because the disease is contagious, so it must be placed specifically so as not to mix with livestock, especially sacrificial animals," he added.

Adrian said, until now there are 1,404 sacrificial animals sold in stalls that have been checked for health with details of 700 cows, four buffalo, and 700 sheep. The sacrificial animals that passed the health check were marked with ears and had barcodes and had been vaccinated.

The purpose of installing signs and barcodes is so that prospective buyers can find out the condition of the animal's medical history. And similar examinations will continue until the D day of slaughtering sacrificial animals.
