49 Medan Prison Prisoners Receive Vesak Remission 2023
The Medan Class I Correctional Institution (Lapas) granted remissions to 49 Correctional Inmates (WBP) at the celebration of the Tri Suci Vesak 2567 Buddhist Era (BE) or 2023 AD.
"The decision letter for granting remissions given by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of the Republic of Indonesia through the Directorate General of Corrections to the Medan Class I Prison WBP is 43 WBP, plus 6 elderly WBPs," said the Head of the Medan Class I Prisoners Development Division. Sembiring Incident was quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, June 4.
He detailed that from 42 WBPs they received RK I or partial reduction, while one WBP received RK II or immediately free remission or in this case served a criminal fine replacement (subsider).
"On this occasion, special remissions for the elderly were also carried out for six inmates aged 70 years and over who received RK I, all of the WBPs had met the substantive and administrative requirements," he said.
According to the incident, the overall granting of remissions is a form of fulfilling the rights of the inmates who of course have met the requirements and are in accordance with the procedure.
"Especially the elderly remission which is a manifestation of the enforcement of human rights in the Correctional UPT, especially the Class I Medan Prison," he said.

Previously, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of North Sumatra granted remissions consisting of 215 general criminals, three PP 28 of 2006 prisoners, and 134 PP 99 of 2012.
The number of prisons and detention centers in North Sumatra on June 1, 2023 was 31,559 people, with details of 24,798 prisoners and 6,761 prisoners.
