Vice President Affirms The Government Does Not Intervention Of The Constitutional Court's Decision To Extend The Term Of Office Of KPK Leaders
JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin invites people who want to protest related to the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership.
"So go ahead if someone protests, yes... There is a mechanism that has been built in our state system," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 26.
The Constitutional Court panel led by Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman changed the term of office of the KPK leadership from four years to five years.
"I think for the Constitutional Court's decision, of course, from the government, we cannot intervene. So indeed the Constitutional Court has decided that the current KPK (leading) is in accordance with its decision, the term of office is added 5 years, this authority lies with the Constitutional Court," said the Vice President.
The vice president said that the Constitutional Court's decision was final and binding.
"The Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding, it is impossible for the government to intervene, because the system is final," said the Vice President.
Previously, former senior KPK investigator Novel Baswedan said the decision removed the dignity of the KPK.
Novel said that if you look at the legal perspective, the decision is not for the current leadership period, but for the next leadership.
