KPK Ready To Implement Constitutional Court Decision On Adding Leadership Term
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that it is ready to carry out the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the extension of the leadership term from four to five years. This assurance was conveyed by KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri.
"As state officials and law enforcers, for us the law is the commander in chief. Because the Constitutional Court's decision is a law, we are ready to implement it," Firli said in a written statement to VOI, Friday, May 26.
Firli ensured that the extension of his term of office would bring strengthening in eradicating corruption. He will also focus on solving various existing cases.
"We make sure that during the remaining time of this task, there will be no legal process that is legally flawed. Because it is a legacy," he said.
"This is a mandate that we must carry out. In principle, we remain committed to cleaning this country from corrupt practices," continued Firli.
He hopes that the community will provide support. "Hopefully we will be given health and strength and safety to carry out our duties until December 20, 2024," he said.

As previously reported, the Constitutional Court granted the request for a judicial review submitted by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, on Thursday, May 25. This decision was read out by Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman during the Decree and Decision Speech Session.
"Declaring Article 34 of the KPK Law which originally reads 'KPK leaders hold office for 4 years and can be re-elected only for one term' contrary to the 1945 Constitution and do not have conditionally binding legal force as long as it is interpreted as 'KPK leaders hold office for 5 years and can be re-elected only for one term of office,' said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman, which was broadcast on the MK YouTube channel.
There were several considerations in the decision. Among them, for the sake of alignment, because the four-year term scheme, recruitment was carried out twice, namely December 2019 and December 2023.
