MPR Chair Asks Ministry Of Health To Take Efforts To Prevent Zoonosis Outbreak
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) asked the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to try to prevent the outbreak of various zoonotic diseases in the country.
"Ask the Government, in this case the Ministry of Health, to take preventive measures against the outbreak of zoonotic diseases in Indonesia and immediately draw up steps to deal with the outbreak," said Bambang Soesatyo as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 18.
He conveyed this in response to a report from the Vietnam Ministry of Health's infectious disease control system which showed that in the first months of 2023 there were a number of residents in the country infected with Streptococcus suis bacteria or zoonotic diseases of transmission from pigs to humans. according to Bambang, with the report, the Indonesian Ministry of Health must also be aware of the disease which is also endemic in Indonesia.
"Asking the Ministry of Health to be more vigilant against zoonosis because there are patients who have tested positive for Streptococcus suis," he added.
In addition to making prevention efforts, Bambang also asked the Indonesian Ministry of Health to educate the public regarding the steps they can take to prevent transmission of zoonotic diseases.
"Education is needed considering zoonosis disease can also be harmful to human health," he explained.
The MPR also asked the Government to eliminate the potential risk of zoonosis infection because there is currently no vaccine to treat the disease.
