Extortion In The Illegal Parking Area Near The Istiqlal Mosque, Sawah Besar Police Conduct An Investigation
The Sawah Besar Police conducted an investigation regarding the circulation of a viral video of extortion through illegal parking vehicles in the Istiqlal Mosque area, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta. The jukir set parking rates of IDR 10 thousand per motorbike.
"Regarding the alleged extortion from the Criminal Investigation Unit, the large rice field police are still investigating the perpetrators. There is indeed no parking space, if the official parking lot is under the Istiqlal Mosque," said Head of the Sawah Besar Police AKP Dhanar Dhono Vernandhie when confirmed, Monday, May 15.
In an amateur video recorded by residents, a number of motorbikes are seen parked parallel on the bicycle lane on Cathedral Street. The video was then uploaded to the Instagram account @lensa_berita_jakarta.
"From the large rice field police, they have appealed to the congregation of the Istiqlal mosque to use parking spaces that have been provided," he said.
Meanwhile, Kasatpel of the Department of Transportation (Dishub) Sawah Besar Afif said that vehicle owners often park their vehicles in illegal parking because they don't want to park at official parking locations.
"The jukir around the istiqlal mosque is wild, not under the guidance of the Transportation Agency because around the istiqlal mosque, the area is prohibited from parking on the sidewalk or on the road. We will coordinate with the Sector Police and Satpol PP for control and guarding," he said.
