Madiun City Government Budgets Rp600 Million Bangun 2 Tematic Villages

MADIUN - The Public Housing and Settlement Area (Disperkim) Office in 2023 has budgeted Rp600 million to build two new thematic villages as an effort to reduce slum areas in Madiun City, East Java.

Head of Housing, Settlement and Land Division of the Housing and Settlement Areas Agency (Disperkim) Budi Agung Wicaksono said that apart from reducing slum areas, the thematic village was also built to secure the city government's assets.

"The two thematic villages are planned to be built in Kanigoro and Sogaten sub-districts with a point of Rp. 300 million each. Currently, the process has entered the planning stage," Agung said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 12.

According to him, the development system is carried out by a self-management system by community groups (pokmas).

His party deliberately directed the pokmas to work on the thematic village to encourage the participation of the local community so that the future function is more optimal.

"Pokmas is considered to be more understanding of the concept of thematic village according to the characteristics of their respective regions. They will also be responsible for maintaining and caring for them," he said.

In addition to reducing slum areas, he continued, the thematic village also has a number of other destinations. For example, the fulfillment and improvement of environmental infrastructure as well as growth and increasing local economic potential.

"This year, only two have been built. Later gradually and continuously, another thematic village will be built in Madiun City," he said.

Among them, in Madiun Lor, Nambangan Lor, Klegen, Kelun, Winongo, Rejomulyo, Manguharjo, Manisrejo, and Patihan sub-districts. The entire thematic village has been built and managed by the local pokmas.
