Bad Weather Makes 2 Pioneer Ships In Maluku Delay Shipping
AMBON - PT Pelni Ambon branch ensured that the two pioneering ships operating at Ambon Port had to postpone their voyages due to bad weather in Maluku.
"There are 103 Nusantara Belt Vessels and 106 Nusantar Belt Vessels that have submitted a postponement related to the bad weather warning," said Head of Operations (Kaops) of PT Pelni Ambon branch Muhammad Assegaf, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 12.
The 103 belt ships sailed the waters of Tual, Elat, Molu, Larat, Rumean, to Saumlaki and Marsela.
Meanwhile, the 106 belt ships sailed Banda waters, Sliding, Gorom, Kesui, Kur Island, to Tual.
The two ships must temporarily postpone the previously scheduled shipping schedule until an undetermined time.
"Until now, it is not certain how long the shipping delay will be, depending on the captain, because he also sees the existing weather conditions," he explained.
Prospective passengers who wish to use the ship are expected not to sail first until further announcement is issued.
Assegaf said it was done for the safety of passengers while sailing to the predetermined route.
"We prioritize shipping safety in service to the community," he said.

The reason is, the belt ship is smaller than the others and will be dangerous if it is forced to go to sea in high wave conditions like today.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had issued early warnings in six regions each, the waters of Buru Island, the waters of the Tanimbar Islands, the waters of the Kai Islands, the West Banda Sea, the waters of the Aru Islands, and the Arafuru Sea.
"The 2.5 to four meters high wave is likely to occur in the Maluku Sea on May 12-13, 2023," said Ambon Asar, Head of Maritime Meteorological Station.
The potential for high waves of 2.5 to four meters occurred in six regions, namely the waters of Buru Island, the waters of the Tanimbar Islands, the waters of the Kai Islands, the West Banda Sea, the waters of the Aru Islands, Lauta Arafuru.
Waves as high as 1.25 -2.55 meters (moderate) also have the opportunity to occur in the Seram Sea, eastern Banda Sea, Ambon Island - Lease Waters, Sermata Islands Waters - Leti, Babar Islands Parairan.
