Commemorating May Day, Puan Maharani Affirms The Commitment Of The DPR To Fight For Labor Welfare

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reiterated her commitment to fighting for the aspirations of workers in commemoration of labor day or May Day. Puan stated that the Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to fight for the welfare of the workers, including guarding the rights of female workers in Indonesia.

"Every input and correction will provide energy to the DPR so that they always work to fight for the welfare of the people, including the workers," said Puan in her statement, Monday, May 1.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture ensured that the council would continue to strive to prioritize the interests of workers in every decision-making. Puan hopes that workers can get as many benefits as possible through the work of the DPR.

Through the legislative, budget and supervision functions carried out by the DPR, I hope that fellow workers can get more decent welfare. We in the DPR always try to fight for the best for all professions so that the community and each group can get protection according to their rights," he added.

In today's May Day momentum, Puan also highlighted the issue of proper maternity leave and facilities for pregnant/admitting mothers in the workplace. This, he said, is being fought for by the DPR through the Draft Law on Maternal and Child Welfare (RUU KIA).

"We want all female workers to get their rights according to their nature, but at the same time have the same career opportunities as men," said Puan.

On the other hand, Puan reminded the workers who will come down to commemorate May Day today to convey their aspirations in an orderly manner. "Make sure peaceful demonstrations also follow the health protocol recommendations," said Puan.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP also asked the police to oversee the process of conveying the aspirations of the workers by prioritizing the humanist side. He reminded that there should not be acts of violence during the action of conveying the aspirations of the workers.

"Give protection to fellow workers who are fighting for their rights. Put forward persuasive ways," he said.

He also invited the entire community to appreciate the work of the workers because workers are one of the pillars of the world economy.

"Congratulations on commemorating Labor Day for all Indonesian workers. Work with your heart and motivation for the best work trace for the common welfare. That way, the Indonesian economy will develop and become a benchmark in the eyes of the world," added Puan.
