New McLaren Hybrid System Development, Lighter Inspired By F1

JAKARTA - For the next flagship car, McLaren is reportedly planning to develop a new, lighter electrification system and provide better performance for drivers.

This new Powertrain consists of a V8 engine developed in-house connected to a new hybrid unit. The electric component will weigh 70 percent lighter than the current generation system, and will give its power directly to transmission, as disclosed in a meeting of dealers by Automotive News, Thursday, April 27.

The powertrain will be mounted on a two-seater car inspired by Formula One (F1), which will enter McLaren's "Ultimate Series".

This Powertrain will connect to a new carbon fiber monocoque chassis developed with integrated armchair clothing. This will give the car a better stiffness and increased security, and of course reduce weight.

Meanwhile, the concept of aerodynamics is inspired by F1 and is expected to help cars perform both on track and also impressively used on highways, reported by Carscoop, Friday, April 28.

Although McLaren is also reportedly developing electric cars, the automaker doesn't seem sure the technology is ready for its vehicles.

In addition to the hybrid, McLaren also provides hints that a larger luxury model will be coming soon. The automotive manufacturer plans to enter a new class with four seats and doors.

Yes, it could be known that McLaren's new CEO, Michael Leiters, was previously involved in the development of Porsche Cayenne and Ferrari Purosangue.

However, the four-door vehicle is expected to be launched in 2028, while supercars with this hybrid system are likely to be introduced in 2026.
