Democrat Party: Political Party Coalition Ahead Of The 2024 General Election To Maintain A Conducive Situation

JAKARTA - The Demokrat Party's Central Leadership Council (DPP) considers that the coalition efforts by political parties in Indonesia ahead of the 2024 General Election (Election) is one way to keep the situation conducive.

Therefore, the Demokrat Party, which is currently part of the Coalition for Change, respects the various discussions and meetings conducted by political party leaders to form a new coalition, for example, the Grand Coalition or the National Coalition.

"We appreciate the meeting between PAN and Gerindra officials, because the gathering has made the national political atmosphere cool and warm. Our general chairman, Mas AHY (Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono) has also often done this since leading the Demokrat Party," said the Head of the Demokrat Party's DPP Strategic Communications Herzaky Mahendra Putra in a written broadcast received by Antara in Denpasar, Sunday.

He added that coalition efforts as shown by the Change Coalition or other coalitions are a form of competition with dignity and integrity.

"Many parties suspect that building this grand coalition is intended to confront Anies (Baswedan, ed.) and the Coalition for Change. The Democrats themselves see it as a chivalrous and constructive endeavor," Herzaky said.

In the same written broadcast, Herzaky, who is also the Demokrat Party's Spokesperson Coordinator, said that his party continues to support healthy ways of competition. He also believes that the more presidential and vice presidential candidates that political parties can present, the better it will be for democracy in Indonesia.

“The more candidates who compete, the better. If you feel that 2 or 3 political parties are not enough to compete with the Coalition for Change or Anies Baswedan, feel free to form a coalition of 4 or 5 parties. Democrats really appreciate the efforts based on the spirit of competition," he said.

The General Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) this week (8/4) came to visit the residence of the General Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto to follow up on the idea of building a grand coalition between the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) and the Great Indonesia Awakening Coalition (KKIR).

“It's impossible for a large country to be managed by one or two, but large countries must also manage it, which we sometimes call the National Coalition. Because we need our togetherness to advance this country," Zulkifli Hasan told reporters after meeting Prabowo in Jakarta.
