GM Removes And Doesn't Use Apple CarPlay And Android Auto, What's Up?
JAKARTA - Starting from the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer edition, General Motors (GM) as the parent company Chevrolet will remove Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.
Reporting from Reuters on Saturday, April 1, 2023, they will switch to an infotainment system developed with Google for electric vehicles in the future.
GM has decided not to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on electric vehicles aimed at getting a lot of data on how consumers drive and charge electric vehicles. They are designing navigation and entertainment systems for electric vehicles and will cooperate with Google.
Edwan Kummer, as GM's Chief Digital Officer, is also trying to accelerate the strategy for electric vehicles to become a platform for digital subscription services for users.
"We believe there is an opportunity for subscription revenue for us," said Edward.
According to GM, customers will later be offered with a new system that can access Google Maps and Google Assistant, a voice command system for eight years.
Then, future entertainment systems will also offer apps such as Spotify, Audible, and other services that can be accessed by the driver via cellphone.
For gasoline vehicles, GM plans to continue offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring systems.
For your information, GM and Google have been working together since 2019 in developing the software foundation of entertainment systems connected to other vehicle systems, such as Super Cruise driver assistants.
